Kittens & Cats

Looking for adoptable kittens? AARF currently has many precious kittens and cats in our foster program that are looking for you too! We are matching our wonderful kitties to their forever homes and we hope you are next!

PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PROCESS BEFORE SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION.

Please note: it is our preference to adopt our younger kittens in pairs. Many of our kittens are born and/or raised together during which time they naturally develop loving bonds with each other. Adopting in pairs is crucial for their long-term mental, emotional, behavioral, and physical health. We may make exceptions when there is a resident cat or cats already in the home, or sometimes a very friendly pup, ensuring that the adopted kitten has companionship in his/her new home, depending on the kitty and the situation. Please do not apply for our younger kittens unless you are looking to adopt a pair OR meet our single kitten criteria. To understand more about why we feel so strongly about kittens finding homes together, please check out this informational link and video: http://www.kittenlady.org/twokittens

The process to adopt is simple:

1. Apply. Submit your information by completing the Cat Adoption Application. Please be sure to provide as much information as you can in answer to each question; the more thorough and descriptive your answers are, the better. (Please note that we only adopt within Northern California)

2. Phone interview. If you meet the criteria for adoption, one of our adoption counselors will reach out to you within a week of your application. We will try to get in contact with you as soon as possible, but please understand we are an all volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.

3. Virtual home visit. This video-chat visit is to coach you through setting up your home for your new kittens and to troubleshoot any safety concerns by advising on kitten-proofing solutions. During this time, we are also happy to answer any questions you may have since our adoption counselors are kitten experts and can offer tips and tricks to set you and your new kittens up for success.

4. Match with your kittens. After you are approved to adopt, you will be able to choose from the currently available kittens. Our adoption counselors will help you find the PURRFECT fit for your family.

5. Approval and Adoption. Once the kittens have finished all their medical (vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, etc.), they will be able to go home with you. Kittens who are waiting to complete their medical can be reserved, but will not go home until all their medical is complete.
